Baraha Chhetra Temple

The Baraha Chhetra Temple - Sunsari

The Baraha Chhetra (Kshetra) Temple lies in the east of Nepal around 20 km from Dharan at the confluence of the Sapta Koshi and Koka rivers and is one of the most holy tirtha's of Nepal.

Festival - Maghe (Makara) Sankranti - Bathing Holy rivers

The Maghe Sankranti festival is held at the first day of the holy month of Magh (arround the mid of January (12-14)). Maghe Sankranti celebrates that the warmer days are coming.  The festival is also seen as a new year that is coming.

Maghe Sankranti is one of the three occasions in a year that hindu's should bath in holy rivers. The bathing is done in the early morning mostly at thirtha's where two holy rivers colide like for example the Barah Chhetra temple.
