Sleeping Vishnu Budhanilkantha Temple

In the village of Budhanilkantha north of Kathmandu you find a thousend year old stone 5 meter tall sleeping Vishnu (Jalasayana) lying in the cosmic ocean resting on Ananta Sesa the thousend headed snake. The statue lies in the middle of a small pond.


Shakti Peeth - Guheswari / Guheswori - Kathmandu

Guheswari is one of the most famous shakti-peeths of Nepal. A shakti-peeth is a place where a piece of the body of the Sati fell while Shiva was carrying her corpse arround the world.
Guheswari is very close to the famous Pashupatinath temple just a few hundred meters upstream the holy Bagmati River.


Tilicho Lake = Kak Bhusundi Sarovar from Ramayana

Tilicho Lake the highest lake of the world at almost 5000 meters is said to be the Kak Bhusundi Sarovar lake mentioned in the Ramayana.


Halesi Mahadev

Halesi Mahadev are three caves representing the eyes of Shiva. Halesi Mahadev is a religious place since thousends of years and important for both Hindus and Buddhists. All three caves have their own symbols or forms of Shiva. The Haleshwar Mahadev cave has an image of Shiva, the Basaha Gupha cave an image of Nandi, Shiva's guard and the third cave has an image of Bairav the angry manifestation of Shiva.  Besides the gods bats are living in the caves of Halesi Mahadev.

Ram is the 7th incarnation of Vishnu


Parvati

Parvati is Shiva's wife. Parvati and Shiva have two children; Ganesh and Skanda. 


Bhairava - angry / strong manifestation of Shiva

Bhairava is the strong and angry manifestation of Shiva. Bhairava is one of the most importent gods in Nepal and a lot of temples are dedicated to him. Bairava can be seen with a dog who is his vehicle (vahana)

Dakshinkali Temple

The Dakshinkali Temple in Pharping in the south west of the Kathmandu Valley is a temple dedecated to the godess Kali. She was one of the three wifes of Shiva. Kali is a demon slayer. You can see her often with blood on her hands and the head of a demon in one of her left hands.  Kali is worshipped with animal sacrifices like goats.
