Sita wife of Ram

Sita is the wife of Ram who is the main character in the Ramayana and the 7th incarnation of Vishnu. Sita is the reincarnation of the Goddess Lakshmi.

Siddhartha Gautama Sakya Buddha

Siddhartha Gautama known as the Buddha and by Hindus seen as the ninth reincarnation of Vishnu and by Mahayana Buddhist as the incarnation of the Bodhisattva Śvetaketu was born around the year 563 BCE in or around Lumbini Nepal as the son of King Suddhodana and Queen Mayadevi of the Śākyas a clan who ruled the area of Kapilavastu in Nepal. Much have been written about the Buddha, but the oldest surviving text about Siddhartha are from three hundred years after his death .Details about the Buddha's life differ from source to source.

Sleeping Vishnu Budhanilkantha Temple

In the village of Budhanilkantha north of Kathmandu lies a 5 meter tall sleeping Vishnu (Jalasayana, he who sleeps on the waves) in the middle of a small pond. The sculpture from the 5th century represents Vishnu's sleeping in the cosmic ocean while resting on Ananta Sesa the thousend headed snake. 

Vishnu is lying with in his four hands the typical Vishnu symbols like the on the picture clearly visible discus (chakra), left of Vishnu's head. The chakra is Vishnu's main weapon to fight demons.

Halesi Mahadev, Shiva's hideout for Bhasmasur

Halesi Mahadev in Khotang in eastern Nepal has been a religious place for hindus as well as bhuddist since thousends of years. There are three caves that represent the three eyes of Shiva. Bhuddist who call these caves Maratika believe that Padmasambhava (the founder of Tibetan Bhuddism, the great Rinpoche) and his wife Mandarava freed themselves from the circle of lives and thus becomming immortal.

Bhairava - angry / strong manifestation of Shiva

Bhairava is the strong and angry manifestation of Shiva. Bhairava is one of the most importent gods in Nepal and a lot of temples are dedicated to him. Bairava can be seen with a dog who is his vehicle (vahana)

What is Hinduism

Hinduism which is with over a billion followers the third religion of the world, is for outsiders often a very complex belief with an almost endless palet of Gods. Followers of Hinduism try to life according to the Sanatana Dharma which means something like eternal law. 

When you look a bit closer than many of the gods are incarnations or different forms of the tree main gods also called the trinity of Hinduism and their spouses;

Ruru Chhetra

Ruru Chhetra is a very holy place in Nepal. Some even call it the Varanassi of Nepal. Ruru lies on the banks of the holy Gandaki river. Like in Muktinath also in Ruru one can find the holy saligram fosilis that represent Vishnu.

The main temple is the Rishikesh temple. Erected after the king of Palpa found a statue of the god Rishikesh in the Gandaki river.

Bishnupaduka Temple

Not far away from Dharan and the Baraha Kshetra temple lies the Bishnupaduka temple. In this temple you can see two footprints who are said to be from lord Vishnu.

Sesh Narayan Temple

Just before Parphing on the road to Dakshinkali you find the Sesh Narayan Temple. A temple with four ponds dedicated to Vishnu.

Sesh Narayan is on of te four main Narayan (Vishnu) temples of the Kathmandu Valley. The others are; Changu Narayan, Ichangu Narayan, Bishankhu Narayan.

Siddhashrama ?
Siddhashrama is mentioned in several ancient texts. For example in the story about Shiva and Parvati living in the Shlesmantaka forrest, which lies in the Kathmandu Valley of Nepal. But it is also mentioned several times in Valmiki Ramayana and text about Sai Baba tell us that Siddhashrama is within every person is a spiritual concept.
