According to a legend the image of Karunamaya in Nepal used to belong to a temple in Cohbar hill in the south west of the Kathmandu Valley.
The image was stolen and brought to Tibet until the Tibetan king got an terrible skin desease and ordered to bring back the image of Karunamaya to where it belonged.
The people who were ordered to bring it back to Nepal threw it in a Nepali river.
One day after having a dream a fisherman found the image. Unable to move the image much further then the river bank a temple was built around the image.
