How to go to Nepal ? There are several ways to enter Nepal. This article discusses how to get into Nepal by air via Delhi or Train and Bus via Sunauli (border town India / Nepal). Via all routes you can get a Nepali visa on arrival.

From India to Nepal:


By Air from Delhi to Kathmandu:

The easiest way to go to Nepal is to fly from Delhi international airport to Kathmandu. There are several flights a day. (When it is misty the early morning flights might be canceled). It roughly a 2 hours flight.
Jet, Jet light & Indian Airlines are some of the carriers that have daily services between Delhi and Kathmandu.

By Train to Gorakpur (India) and with bus to Kathmandu / Pokhara:

If you want to go lowbudget, traveling by train is a possibilty. If you travel by train from India you can go from Delhi or Kolkata to Gorakpur. Which is 70 kilomters from the Nepali border. From Gorakpur you can take a bus to Sunauli (the India / Nepal border). From where you can take a bus to Kathmandu / Pokhara. If you choose this route you probably need a stay over at the border to wait for the next mornings bus.  This route will take you between 19 to 28 (travel) hours from Delhi to Kathmandu and 17 to 24 (travel) hours from Delhi to Pokhara. From Kolkata to Kathmandu is 17 - 22 hours and from Kolkata to Pokhara 15 to 18 hours. (without the time you have to wait at the border for your connection bus).

(If you travel by train in India be aware that you tigh you luggage good so it won't get stolen. And sometime the tea sellers (chai) mix the tea with chemicals. So they don't have to put in real milk and sugar which is relativly expensive. This doesn't mean each chai seller will cheat you. But one or two might.)

By Bus to Sunauli

Another alternative is taking a bus to Sanauli and from there to your destination in Nepal. A bus ride from Delhi to Sunauli takes arround 24 - 30 hours.
