Gosainkunda - Holy Lake in Rasuwa
Gosaikunda is a holy high altitude lake at 4380 meters in the Rasuwa district known for the Langtang mountain range area north of Kathmandu.
Goisankundu is said to be the lake where Shiva pierced the earth with its trident (trishul) to ease his throat after he drank poison to save the world. The water came up like fountain and formed the holy Gosaikunda lake. Pilgrims come to Gosaikunda twice a year; during Dashain and Janai Purnima (august). The pilgrims come to take a holy bath in the lake. During Janai Purnima, shamans from all over Nepal come to Gosaikunda, they dance and sing all night.
