Sati the first wife is Shiva is the daughter of Daksha Prajapati and Prasuti who is the daughter of Svayambhuva Manu. Sati died after she throw herself into a religious fire after her father didn't invite her and her husband for a religious gathering. After that Shiva took Sati in his arm and started wandering and wandering through the Universe. Until Vishnu could not see it any longer and he cut Sita in pieces with his discus. Everywhere where a piece of Sita fell is a shakti peeth. One of most famous Shakti Peeths of Nepal is Guheswari not far away from the Pasupatinath temple. Sati reincarnated in Parvati who became Shiva's second wife.
 
 

Shakti Peeth - Guheswari / Guheswori - Kathmandu

Guheswari (Guheswori), is one of the most famous shakti-peeths of Nepal. A shakti-peeth is a place where a piece of the body of the Sati fell while Shiva was carrying her corpse arround the world.
Guheswari where Sati's yoni (Vagina) fell is very close to the famous Pashupatinath temple just a few hundred meters upstream the holy Bagmati River.

The Legend of the Shakti Peeths

The are several temples in Nepal that are known as Shakti Peeths. But wat is a Shakti Peeth and where does it come from ?

As with most Hindi legends there are several stories that slighty differ from each other. The main story is that in the Satya Yuga, Sati / Shakti / Dakshayani who was a daughter of Daksha a Prajapati (meaning one of the sons of Brahma) married with Shiva against her fathers will.
